From the dawn of time and at the heart of every culture, people have told each other stories. Long before the first word was ever written, stories were passed down by word of mouth. From elder to younger, from mouth to ear, in kitchens and in markets, in holy places or whilst sitting round the fire, for thousands of years we have told each other stories.
What’s more, those stories have travelled far and wide. Everyone has heard of Cinderella. Well, it’s not that surprising when you consider that some scholars estimate there are over 3000 different versions. The oldest written one, "Yeh-hsien", dates back to around 850 AD in China but there are ancient Egyptian and an ancient Greek versions that may be much, much older. But that’s only one example, stories have endless possibilities, so there’s bound to be something that appeals to you.
